Pleased to announce the details of our season-ending, season-long 90th anniversary celebration on SAT, NOV 4th – A DEEP BLUES TRIBUTE TO CHRIS JOHNSON. Many of you knew Chris as the founder of the Deep Blues Festival or, with his wife Kristen, as the proprietor of Bayport BBQ, where he also presented the artists and music he loved. To honor the man, we assembled a pretty amazing bill from among the artists he loved best, including DUWAYNE BURNSIDE (son of legendary Bluesman, RL Burnside), the last artist that Chris presented earlier this year at The Den, his venue in Clarksdale, MS. Duwayne will be joined by KENT BURNSIDE (grandson of RL), as well as ALEX “CRANKSHAFT” LARSON, AARON KAPLAN and, last but certainly not least, one of Chris’ all-time favorites (and ours too), LEFT LANE CRUISER. Chris was instrumental in LLC’s career and, to show their appreciation, they wrote a song for and about him entitled, what else, “MR. JOHNSON.”
Free camping in surrounding lot. Great food available from the neighboring SPEAKEASY SALOON AND GRILL. Offering 50/50 raffles and accepting donations to benefit the HIGHGROUND VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK.
